Kenmore is the home of the famous
Taymouth
Castle, which has a very varied history, and is
documented in detail in various web sites which are advised later on our links.
Loch Tay is in a valley, which is surrounded by both forested and bare graggy
hills. It is a beautiful part of Scotland favoured by the many tourists that
visit. many come to enjoy the golf course which has been developed on part of
the old Taymouth castle estate. Some come to enjoy the pleasant walks and beaches on the
south side of the loch, and others for the sailing and the excellent fishing .
The start of the Salmon fishing season in Kenmore,
is
a festival in itself and is well worth attending.
There
are a number of holiday chalets, and an excellent
caravan and camping site here and we do get some interesting visitors.
Sometimes as you wander a little further a field who knows you may come across
our own 007 or even the new Monarch!!.. Our Karen most certainly looks well pleased with
herself.
Our shop is to be found at the side of the loch
adjoining the beach. It used to be an Episcopal 
church, until it was closed
around 19(**) and the building was renovated and opened in 199(0) as
a gift shop. It became so popular with the tourists that we installed a small 
restaurant area where the family could enjoy a pleasant cup of coffee or a pot
of tea, or better still some of our special home made spicy soups, with a fresh
bread roll.
The later item has become our most popular both with the visitors and residents
of Kenmore.
In the background we have playing discreetly some of the very
popular Scottish songs and melodies, and many people are so enamoured with them they
frequently request
copies of the tapes or disks.
There are some very delightful cottages to be found
in our village, which ideally illustrate the flavour of our community.
We display in the region of 5,000 items in the
shop, and lots of visitors come back for a second look. We also often have
people telephoning us to ask for an item which they have seen but failed to
purchase at the time. We are always very pleased to help on these occasions.. We
cannot possibly detail all the items that we have in stock , but come next door
where we have a list of the more popular ones.
